Vero + Jenny Högström & Niki Yrla

Vero

On their bold and brilliant debut album 'Unsoothing Interior', Stockholm's Vero reflect the nature of life. Their songs prioritize emotion over perfectionism "what feels, or sounds, best" and create an album that tumbles through its contents with a sense of unpredictability, excitement and curiosity. It's an album full of raw guitar riffs that spin and spin and sizzle, evoking the spirit of artists like Sonic Youth, Garbage and Pixies. The record, out via PNKSLM Recordings (ShitKid, Les Big Byrd, Holy etc.), is a document of the three musicians' own experiences, injected with a natural urgency that comes from both the reality of the songs and writing and recording them in a studio paid by the hour. For its listeners, it serves less as a roadmap through the turbulence and more as a confidant to share peaks and valleys, drama and desire with, covering everything from sex, friendship and finding out exactly who you are.

Jenny Högström & Niki Yrla

Niki Yrla is a music producer, sound designer, and artist. Jenny Högström is a critic, translator, and author.

Jenny and Niki met on Tinder. There was no romance, but a friendship blossomed. Niki started attending Jenny's book releases, and Jenny attended Niki's performances. Then they began boxing. When they're not sparring, they come together in their love for heavy beats and basslines.

In 2020, they started talking about making music together, or rather, that Niki would do soundscapes for Jenny's poems. This turned out to be a brilliant idea. The result: fun and brutal poetry meeting dark and melodic electronica with fat beats. Jenny and Niki's collaboration is unlike anything else.

Accessibility

The Cultural Center Oceanen is a Q-marked culturally historical building, which is challenging when it comes to accessibility. We do our best to have as many people as possible visit us. When visiting us with mobility aids the best-suited entrance is through the stage. This entrance is accessed via Gathenhielmska trädgården. The entrance is locked, please email us the day before your visit or the latest Friday at 16:00 if you are visiting us during the weekend. We have a wheelchair-accessible bathroom. Please note that flashing lights may occur during concerts and events. For questions regarding accessibility email Mia Herman at mia@oceanen.com.
