The Queer Gaze Curated by: Ida Linde & Kristofer Folkhammar

In 2023, Oceanen presents its very first literary programme series, The Queer Gaze. On a number of occasions, we have invited queer poets and writers to curate a themed evening on the Ocean's stage. The term 'The Male Gaze' was coined by Laura Mulvey to describe the gaze that sees women as objects for the pleasure of heterosexual men. In response, the Female Gaze emerged as a way to subvert the object and position women as viewers. With the programme series The Queer Gaze, Oceanen builds on the terms of the queer gaze's deconstruction of all gender-based power dynamics by allowing the authors to act as subjects and thus tell their stories themselves.

On 19 October, authors Ida Linde and Kristofer Folkhammar come to the Ocean's stage to answer your questions about what it is to be human. Based on their straightforward lives and their faith in poetry, friends and gym training, they try to formulate tender wisdom about what weighs you down or just occupies you.

Accessibility

The Cultural Center Oceanen is a Q-marked culturally historical building, which is challenging when it comes to accessibility. We do our best to have as many people as possible visit us. When visiting us with mobility aids the best-suited entrance is through the stage. This entrance is accessed via Gathenhielmska trädgården. The entrance is locked, please email us the day before your visit or the latest Friday at 16:00 if you are visiting us during the weekend. We have a wheelchair-accessible bathroom. Please note that flashing lights may occur during concerts and events. For questions regarding accessibility email Mia Herman at mia@oceanen.com.
